01

Not a school dressed up like a shop. A real shop building barbers.

DTX Barbers already has clients, rhythm, and reputation in West Dallas. The academy grows out of that same floor: technique, discipline, service, and close supervision.

5.0
Real reputation.

Booksy, Fresha, and the neighborhood. A+ with the BBB. You train inside a shop people already trust.

12
Small first class.

One licensed instructor, four stations, and a founding group small enough that your progress does not disappear.

1
Your work gets seen.

After you finish, pass the state exams, and earn the license, DTX can review your work up close. No job is promised; real outcomes get published when they exist.

Real floor. Real correction.

When your training reaches the floor, you cut under supervision at DTX. The technique gets corrected while your hand is working, not weeks later in a photo.

The Class A Barber program

One thousand hours to turn interest into a trade. Foundations first, supervised floor work when you are ready, then exam prep and the real business of standing behind a chair.

01
Phase 1 · Foundation

Control before ego

Clippers, shears, posture, guidelines, sanitation, skin, hair, shaving, and the Texas rules that show up on the written exam.

02
Phase 2 · Floor

The chair teaches

When you are ready, you move to supervised floor work: fades, tapers, beards, razor work, kids, consultation, and service that brings clients back.

03
Phase 3 · Launch

State, chair, name

Written exam prep, practical exam drills, and the professional side: booking, pricing, taxes, social media, interviewing, and showing up like a barber.

How you actually learn

The difference is correction. Every class.

A clean fade is not learned by watching videos alone. It is learned when someone corrects the pressure, angle, guard change, and line while your hand is still moving.

  • Live correction. The instructor sees the hand, posture, and result while there is still time to adjust.
  • Real clients when you are ready. The student clinic is not decoration. It is where technique starts feeling like a trade.
  • Spanish on the floor. Questions, corrections, and teaching can happen in Spanish, not just the brochure.

Clear tuition. No runaround.

A serious school does not hide the number. You see tuition, understand what is separate, and choose whether to pay in full, use a plan, or finance.

Included in tuition

Kept separate on purpose

Kit, books, state fees

Costs tied to tools and state fees stay separate so tuition stays clean and each number is explained before signing.

Before money moves

Written down

You see the floor, ask payment questions, and get the cost on one sheet. All of it in writing before you sign anything.

What the other Texas schools publish
  • Paul Mitchell, Dallas$14,835
  • Brighton Barber Institute, Hurst$13,000
  • Texas Barber University, Porter$11,415
  • DTX Barber Academy, West Dallas$6,000

Published tuition from each school's own site, September 2026. Kits and state fees are extra everywhere, ours included. Accredited schools can offer federal aid; we can't yet, and the price reflects that.

Cuts, supervised

Once the founding class reaches the floor, the neighborhood gets student-priced cuts checked by a licensed instructor. You help build barbers; they take care of the cut.

About the clinic

06 About

Built in the shop. Built for the community.

"DTX Barbers started with a vision to bring quality cuts, genuine service, and opportunity back to the community that raised me." That is Mike, and that is the foundation of the academy.

The school exists to build barbers with skill, confidence, discipline, and service. Not just hours. Not just a license. The goal is to train people who know how to treat a client, protect the detail, and build a name that lasts. Read the whole story.

07 FAQ

Questions people ask

Clear answers before you waste time. Still have one? Text us at (214) 878-7022. All questions.

01How old do I have to be?

Texas allows a Class A Barber license applicant to be 17. If you are finishing high school, we can talk through timing and what has to line up before you enroll.

02Do I need any experience?

No. Phase 1 starts from zero: posture, clippers, shears, sanitation, and state rules. If you already cut on the side, that practice helps, but the technique still gets rebuilt from the base.

03I have a record. Can I still get licensed?

Maybe. TDLR reviews criminal history case by case. At your tour, we give you the state eligibility notice so you understand the process before investing time or money.

04What license requirements should I know before enrolling?

Texas requires Class A Barber license applicants to be at least 17. TDLR may also review criminal history and may request lawful-presence documentation before issuing a license. We review state requirements before enrollment so you can ask questions before investing time or money.

05Can I work while I'm in school?

Yes. The schedule is built for working adults: Monday to Friday, with daytime and evening hours available. At the planned pace, the 1,000 hours take 8 to 10 months for most students.

06When is the first start date?

The first class starts October 5. The school is licensed by TDLR (school license #706114) and enrolling now.

07What happens when I finish?

You can take the written exam after 900 hours and the practical exam after 1,000. Pass both and TDLR issues the Class A Barber license. DTX can review your work and talk next steps, but no job is guaranteed; real outcomes get published once the first class graduates.
